In our world of photoshop, daily articles about the obesity crisis and constant thinspo on Instagram it’s hard to feel good about your body if it doesn’t seem to conform to the expected ‘norm’. Most women feel insecure about their bodies at some point in their lives and many women feel insecure about their bodies most of their lives.
Even those women we admire like supermodels, our mums and the woman down the street are probably wishing for a smaller something, bigger something or just to lose half a stone.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can feel good in the body you have right here, right now. More than that; you should feel good about your body right here, right now. (I don’t usually go in for ‘shoulds’ but I’ll make an exception for this one 😉 ).
How can you feel good about your body?
Heard the one about waiting till you’ve lost weight to buy new clothes? I. Call. Bull***t. One of the best ways to feel good now is to love how you look and feel in your clothes. Not when you’ve lost half a stone, not when your tummy’s a bit flatter, not in six month’s time but now.
If you can’t afford a whole new wardrobe then get some accessories that make you feel amazing – grab a scarf to pep up your tops, get a new belt to add some sparkle to your jeans and make sure that everything fits and you’re not squeezing yourself into clothes that are too small because that’s guaranteed to make you feel less than amazing.
Become aware of your self talk. Listen to the things that you say to yourself in your head. Become curious about who’s voice that really is – where have you heard those things from? Is it your mother, your father, the newspapers? Who’s telling you that you’re too big / too small / too wobbly / too skinny. Is it really true?
Bear in mind that
- your body will always try to get back to it’s ‘set point’ which is probably around the size you are now
- health is not size dependent, you can be healthy at any weight
- your beauty, value and worth are not dependent on your jeans size or weight
- if you woke up this morning, your body is taking care of you just fine 😉
We talk about how to feel good about your body in much more detail in the Beautiful Swans programme which is currently open for enrollments. If you’d like to repair your relationship with food, feel good about your body and improve your relationship with yourself in the process then why not come over and have a look.
